Deployment Manager advanced concepts
You’ll typically use Deployment Manager when you Install a Zylinc solution from scratch or Upgrade a Zylinc solution to, for example:
- Create tables and programmability in new ZyDB and ZyStatDB databases, or upgrade tables and programmability in existing databases.
- Create ZyDesk administrator user
- Set up or upgrade, for example:
- Java and Tomcat
- Configuration of Tomcat instances
- Windows services, including Exchange synchronization services
- Tomcat services
- Media server software, for example, Administration Portal and update packages
- Set up or upgrade ZyDesk configuration, for example, languages, profiles, license key, and ZyDesk.ini
- Start, stop, or change start-up type for Windows services

These are advanced Deployment Manager concepts that may be useful for your Zylinc solution. You don't need to use them.

In the top of the Deployment Manager window, in the ZyDB configuration fields, you must specify the location of your ZyDB database before you can correctly install any Windows or Tomcat services.
That’s because all Windows or Tomcat services in the Zylinc solution need their own individual SQL configuration files.
An SQL configuration file contains the information that each service needs to connect to the ZyDB database:
- Hostname or IP address of the SQL server
- Port number or instance name of the SQL server
- Name of your ZyDB database
- User name and encrypted password for connection to your ZyDB database
When you use Deployment Manager to install a Windows or Tomcat service, Deployment Manager creates an individual SQL configuration file for each service, and places that file in the individual folder for each installed version of the service.
For Windows services
-
The name of the SQL configuration file is config.xml.
-
The file is placed within C:\ProgramData\Zylinc, in the individual subfolder for the specific version of the installed Windows service
Example: C:\ProgramData\Zylinc\QueueManager\6.7.0.33\QueueManager\config.xml
For Tomcat services
-
The name of the SQL configuration file is config.properties.
-
The file is placed within C:\ProgramData\Zylinc, in the individual subfolder for the specific version of the installed Tomcat service
Example: C:\ProgramData\Zylinc\ClientManager\6.0.110\ZyTomcat1-8080-8443\ClientManager\config.properties

You can use Deployment Manger to update all the SQL configuration files for your Windows and Tomcat services, without the need to reinstall each service.
Update Windows services
- In the top of the Deployment Manager window, in ZyDB configuration, update the relevant fields.
- In the Deployment Manager menu, select Deployment > Windows Services
- In Deployed Services, use CTRL+click to select all the services except SQL server and any Apache Tomcat services.
- Click Deploy SQL Configuration
Update Exchange services
-
In the Deployment Manager menu, select Application Administration > Exchange Sync Deployment
-
In Exchange Sync Service Deployment, make a note (or screenshots) of the information in the Version column and in the State column for all services.
-
Use CTRL+click to select all the services with the status Deployed.
-
Click Undeploy Services
-
Use the note (or screenshots) to select the same services.
-
Click Deploy Services.
If you have more than one active version of Exchange Sync, you may need to change the value in Version to deploy, and repeat steps 5 and 6 for each installed version to deploy all the services in the same version as in your note (or screenshots).
Update Tomcat services
- In the Deployment Manager menu, select Deployment > Tomcat Services
- In Deployed Tomcat Services, select all the services.
- Click Deploy SQL Configuration
The steps that you read about in the previous don't change any other references to the ZyDB location than the ones in the SQL configuration files. Because of that, you'll also need to update all other references, including the ones within the Administration Portal, if you have made any changes to the ZyDB location.

Try the following:
- Open the log file for Deployment Manager (GUI), see Open latest log file from specific Zylinc module
- In the log file, search for lines that contain the words error or exception. Such lines often contain descriptions of the error that can help you solve the problem
If the log files don't help you, you can delete the entire Deployment Manager configuration:
Use this as last resort, because if you delete the entire Deployment manager configuration, you’ll need to reinstall Tomcat instances and Tomcat modules later.
- Delete the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Apache Software Foundation\Procrun 2.0
- Delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Zylinc\DeploymentManager
