Hardware & software recommendations
When you plan, install, or upgrade a Zylinc solution, consider these recommendations.
These are minimum recommendations that are likely to be relevant on new Zylinc solutions in typical usage scenarios. Special requirements may apply in your organization, in which case the recommendations may not be suitable for your organization. In such cases Zylinc will be happy to offer you individual advice, just get in touch.

For servers, especially for server hardware, you need to take several parameters into account, because each of those parameters will affect the load on your Zylinc solution.
The most important one is:
-
The number of endpoints—that is the number of people and other resources that your Zylinc solution must cover, and it includes everything from operators and receptionists to other colleagues, contacts, meeting rooms, projectors, and taxi companies that you want to be able to view information about in your Zylinc solution
The two second most important are:
-
The number of concurrent agents—that is the number of people who should be able to answer inquiries on your Zylinc solution's queues at the same time
-
The number of integrations to other communication systems—that is typically Skype for Business, Cisco, or BroadWorks—and the number of people who use each of those integrations
Other parameters also affect the load, and consequently which hardware you should use:
-
The number of inquiries that you expect to receive at busy times—for phone calls that's your expected BHCA (Busy Hour Call Attempts) value
If you do a Google search for BHCA, you can find many good descriptions of how to calculate your BHCA value.
-
The number of client programs on your solution
- The number of people and resources to be synchronized—that is the number of people and resources whose information must be kept up-to-date in the Zylinc solution through synchronization with the information source, for example Active Directory
- How much people use their calendars—because those calendars must typically be kept up-to-date in the Zylinc solution too
This table gives you minimum recommendations based on your Zylinc solution's number of endpoints:
If your organization also uses agents and/or integrations to other communication systems, like Skype for Business, Cisco, or BroadWorks, you must multiply the number of endpoints by a certain factor to get the right minimum recommendations. View more about that after the table, where you'll also find calculators that help you quickly find the right minimum recommendations.
Endpoints | Windows Application Server | Linux Media Server | SQL Server |
---|---|---|---|
0-500 |
You can use virtualization for your Windows Application Server, regardless of the number of endpoints: If you use Hyper-V, use 2012 R2 or newer. If you use VMware ESXi, use 5.0 or newer. |

If you use agents on your Zylinc solution, multiply the number of concurrent agents (that's agents who should be able to work simultaneously) by 5, and add the result to your number of endpoints to find the right minimum recommendations.
Example: You have 2000 endpoints and 120 agents. You multiply the number of agents (120) by 5, and get 600. When you add that result to your number of endpoints, you get 2600. That means that you should follow the minimum recommendations for 2500-10000 endpoints, even though you have less than 2500 endpoints.
If your Zylinc solution has integrations to other communication systems, like Skype for Business, Cisco, or BroadWorks, you must multiply the number of endpoints by 1.7 for each integration to find the right minimum recommendations.
Example: You have 2000 endpoints and an integration to Cisco. You multiply the number of endpoints (2000) by 1.7, and get 3400. That means that you should follow the minimum recommendations for 2500-10000 endpoints, even though you have less than 2500 endpoints.
If you use agents as well as integrations to other communication systems, you must combine the factors.
Example: You have 2000 endpoints, 120 agents, and integrations to Skype for Business and Cisco. Your calculation will look like this: ((2000 + (120 × 5)) × 1.7) × 1.7 = 7514. That means that you should follow the minimum recommendations for 2500-10000 endpoints, even though you have less than 2500 endpoints.

For computers and devices that run Zylinc client applications we recommend the following.

These applications include, for example, Zylinc Attendant Console, Contact Center, and Service Center. Because they're all desktop clients, they're also collectively known as ZyDesk clients.
